Ever have a day when you're just not yourself? When something about you is just. . . different? Maybe you like some food that ordinarily you can't stomach, or have gained or lost a skill overnight, or have a different dominant hand?
It happened to me today, and it's strange, I'll admit. I first noticed it this morning when I woke up. I got out of bed quickly, when normally I would lounge around for another five or ten minutes. I also had drawing on my mind, which normally happens later in the day; I'm not easy to inspire first thing in the morning.
When I was dressed and ready for work, I made myself a sandwich, ate about half of it, and discarded the rest, which is strange, too; ordinarily I'm famished by the time my lunch break comes around, and will force myself to eat enough calories to make it until then. Somehow it just didn't taste as good.
At work, I was abnormally chatty. Normally I don't make idle conversation with the clients (primarily because I'm no good at it and never know what to say) but today I was downright talkative.
Then comes time for lunch. I go out, order something to eat, pull out my wallet... and there's no cash in it. Generally I
know how much I have in there, and I paid cash for something yesterday, so there was no excuse for me to not know that. I was also much less thirsty, having about half a soda rather than the usual glass/bottle of water followed by a large cola. Again, I ate less than usual, but don't recall if my meal tasted any different than normal.
The next thing I noticed came when I got home. I went into the kitchen and started to make my dinner, but I ended up throwing out one of the ingredients because I couldn't remember how old it was. (Ordinarily I just cut off the fuzzy bits and cook it a little longer, because I am a man and men do disgusting stuff like that when women are absent.) My meal consisted partly of mixed frozen vegetables, which contained onions and red peppers, which I ordinarily don't like, as well as broccoli, which is my favorite. I ended up eating all the peppers and most of the onion, leaving about half the broccoli over.
The last abnormal thing about today was that I logged into dA and checked my messages. As I was typing up responses, I noticed that I, a hunt-N-peck typist, was typing without looking at the keyboard. It wasn't a conscious effort, and it's certainly not a skill I possessed before today. I just knew where the keys were all of a sudden 0_o
Today was a strange day.
